First Class Security Line at Terminal A Las Vegas
January 7th, 2009 by adminSome observations from our recent Las Vegas trip. The flight down last Tuesday on an MD80 had an open seat in first class. Two of the people in first class had actually used Bank of America Visa upgrades, which I've always felt were almost impossible to redeem.
The first class cabin on a 900 on the flight back Friday was full. There was a lunch served and the flight attendant was really kept hopping to complete the service on the short two hour flight.
A special note for Seat 2A. On the 900 flight the FA who worked the front cabin made the initial announcements and she specifically said that the three back lavatories were for coach, while the front was for first class. However, about five minutes later one of the coach FA announced that if anyone needed to use the front lavatory to line up at row six. Anyway, there wasn't a problem with people trooping through first class.

I was told by a FA yesterday that soon there will be a velvet rope separating the classes on Alaska.
QL
D terminal has both the wolf and the king.
My recollection was AS's gates in A Terminal were also a ridiculous distance from baggage claim. It seems they sort of get the shaft at McCarran.
Yesterday morning, I decided to give the nearly empty First Class line a try with my U bp. The moat dragon was laboriously copying a young couple's details onto a sheet as I joined the queue. I noticed the two pax ahead of me holding bp's with seats like 15A and 26D (not AS); after she finished with the couple, the three of us sailed right through in seconds.

On a totally OT note I noticed that they filmed the closing airport scene in Ocean's 13 at the seating area near the AS gates. My husband thought I was a bit odd for remembering the AS gates at LAS. Oh well.
We had similar announcements from the FA while flying on the 747 out of LAS in October. Its amazing how many people don't see the bathroom occupied sign that is mounted on the ceiling and lit-up when occupied. People were walking up and looking at the door before going back to 6 and lining up.
I look forward to that velvet rope http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
I had tried to use the ITM kiosk near security, but couldn't as my connecting QX segment wasn't recognized, so I had to trudge back down to AS. wait while a supervisor sorted out getting the required Flight Coupon to print, and then go back up past the kiosks again. :(
Terminal A in Las Vegas now has a special security line for first class ticket holders. This is a nice feature, although I've never found more than a few people in the normal security line. It's too bad SeaTac doesn't adopt this feature, it would be great for those non-Golds in the front cabin.
SEA does have this now. There is a sticker used for FULL FARE first class (upgrades don't count) that allows elite line access. AS, AA & UA use this for the C/D/N gates.

Has Alaska finally taken delivery of that 747 they ordered in 1967???!!!???

I agree. Perhaps Horizon could line up some commuter hops from check in to the gates. Bev service would be great, but pack a lunch!!! With the earlier required check in, you'll need it.
...I wish YVR would put one in...
YVR has an elite/F security line. You will need to ask the check-in agent for a "FasTrak" stamp and you will be able to go to the right hand side to bypass all the mess of the security line. Many check-in agents either forget or don't know about this stamp. Better to ask for it.
FWIW, I'm not seen much line-up at YVR security except for Monday morning flights.
